Item Buying
The Item Buying section of the Activities tab has one task, Buy Runes. It buys a set number of one kind of rune from a shop. It works on free-to-play accounts, though only some runes have a free-to-play shop.
Most tasks buy the runes they need by themselves. Use Buy Runes when you want a stock of runes in the bank ahead of time, for example for alching, teleports or a later task. You can add it several times, once per rune.
Options
Section titled “Options”| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| Rune | Air, Astral, Blood, Body, Chaos, Cosmic, Death, Earth, Fire, Law, Mind, Nature or Water rune. |
| Quantity | How many runes to buy. This is an amount to buy, not a total to own: runes you already have don’t count toward it. |
| Allow Wilderness mage rune shop | Lets a hardcore account use the Wilderness rune shops. See Wilderness shops. |
Which shop it uses
Section titled “Which shop it uses”Of the shops your account can use, the script picks the one with the largest stock of that rune. When stocks are equal, it picks the cheaper one, and after that the one listed first below.
| Rune | Shops, in the order the script prefers them |
|---|---|
| Air, Water, Earth, Fire | Betty (Port Sarim), Aubury (Varrock), Wizard Akutha, Amlodd, Baba Yaga, Teicuh, Regath, Lundail |
| Mind | Aubury, Betty, Wizard Akutha, Teicuh, Regath, Lundail |
| Body | Aubury, Betty, Teicuh, Regath, Lundail |
| Chaos | Betty, Aubury, Wizard Akutha, Teicuh, Lundail |
| Death | Mage of Zamorak, Betty, Aubury, Wizard Akutha, Lundail, Teicuh |
| Blood | Mage of Zamorak, Wizard Akutha, Regath |
| Law | Wizard Akutha, Amlodd, Baba Yaga, Lundail, Ali Morrisane |
| Nature | Wizard Akutha, Amlodd, Baba Yaga, Lundail, Ali Morrisane, Teicuh |
| Cosmic | Amlodd, Teicuh, Lundail, Ali Morrisane |
| Astral | Baba Yaga |
Betty and Aubury need nothing, so on most accounts the elemental, mind, body and chaos runes come from them. The other shops have these requirements:
| Shop | Where | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Wizard Akutha | Wizards’ Guild, Yanille | The Hand in the Sand, 66 Magic |
| Regath | Arceuus | Membership |
| Mage of Zamorak | Wilderness, north of Edgeville | Membership, Enter the Abyss, and the Wilderness rule |
| Amlodd | Prifddinas | Song of the Elves |
| Baba Yaga | Lunar Isle | Lunar Diplomacy, and a Seal of passage you own |
| Teicuh | Tal Teklan | Children of the Sun |
| Lundail | Mage Arena bank | Membership, and the Wilderness rule |
| Ali Morrisane | Al Kharid | The Feud, and his rune stock unlocked |
On a free-to-play account only Betty and Aubury are open, so blood, law, nature, cosmic and astral runes can’t be bought.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”- Works out the cost from the shop’s listed price and the quantity still to buy.
- Banks for the coins. It takes exactly that many coins from the bank. If you don’t own enough, it reports a coin shortage. With Earn coins when a task runs short on, the script runs a money maker first (see Running short of coins).
- Walks to the shop and buys until it has bought the quantity, counting the runes as they arrive.
Wilderness shops
Section titled “Wilderness shops”Two shops are in or past the Wilderness: Lundail in the Mage Arena bank and the Mage of Zamorak’s battle-rune shop north of Edgeville. Both need membership.
For Lundail, the script prepares the trip first:
- At a bank it puts away all your worn equipment and carries no coins.
- It takes a knife, axe, pickaxe or scimitar to cut the webs, and up to 8 pieces of food (it needs at least 4).
- It walks to the Mage Arena bank, takes the coins out there and buys from Lundail.
If you don’t own a cutting item or at least 4 food, the task is set aside and says what’s missing. The Mage of Zamorak is visited like any other shop, carrying the coins.
When it’s done
Section titled “When it’s done”The task is done once it has bought the quantity and you own at least one of that rune. This is saved for your account, so a restart doesn’t buy the runes again.
If you later have none of that rune left anywhere (bank, inventory or worn), the task comes back and buys the full quantity again.
When no shop your account can use sells the rune, the task waits and shows why. It shows as blocked with that reason, not as done or skipped, and starts again on its own once a shop opens up to you (a quest finished, membership back). If nothing else can run, the script ends with the reason.
