Woodcutting

Ironman AIO has three Woodcutting methods. Chop & Bank and Chop & Drop pick the best tree for your level by themselves. Collect chops one kind of log you choose, at a spot you can choose, and banks it. Any (per account) mixes the first two.

To add one, pick Woodcutting in Setup, set a level range and choose a method. Every method ends when you reach the To level. Below the editor is the Prefer forestry locations checkbox, a setting shared by all your Woodcutting tasks (see Forestry).

  • Axe. Each bank trip takes the best axe for your Woodcutting level, and wields it when your Attack is high enough (otherwise it stays in the inventory). If you own no axe at all, it takes coins and buys one.
  • Axe upgrades. It buys the next axe up when you can use it and afford it: bronze, iron and steel (from 6 Woodcutting) from Bob in Lumbridge, mithril (21) and adamant (31) from Lunami once Children of the Sun is done, and rune from Perry from 60 Woodcutting. Past steel, this only happens with Upgrade axe past steel on in Preferences (on by default).
  • Bird nests. It picks up bird nests that fall for you, and banks once it carries 5 nests or Forestry rewards.
  • Log basket and Forestry kit. If you own a log basket or a Forestry kit (or basket), it brings them. If you own one but it’s not on you, it goes back to the bank for it.
  • Unwanted items. Anything in the inventory that isn’t an axe, logs, a bird nest, Forestry items or coins sends it to the bank.
  • White Wolf Mountain. When the trip to the trees crosses White Wolf Mountain, it takes up to 30 coins along.

Chops the best tree for your level and, when the inventory is full, banks the logs at the bank that goes with the spot.

Chops the best tree for your level and drops the logs when the inventory is full. It still banks bird nests and Forestry rewards.

How Chop & Bank and Chop & Drop pick a tree

Section titled “How Chop & Bank and Chop & Drop pick a tree”
Woodcutting level Tree
1-14 Normal trees
15-29 Oak
30-34 Willow
35+ Teak (members only), once a teak spot is usable

From 35 it only moves to teaks when it can use a teak spot (see the spot table below); until then it stays on willows. On a free-to-play account that means willows from 30. With Prefer forestry locations on, it picks the highest tree that has a Forestry spot you can use, so it moves to teaks once you’ve finished Children of the Sun (Locus Oasis) or Song of the Elves (Prifddinas).

Each account then settles on its own spot for that tree among the ones it can use. With Prefer forestry locations on, it picks among the Forestry spots when the tree has any. Teak always goes in this order, taking the first spot it can use: Prifddinas, North Tlati, Locus Oasis, Ape Atoll, then Isle of Souls.

Chops the log you pick in Log and banks it. Use it when you want a particular log for Firemaking, Fletching or Construction, or to train on a tree the automatic methods don’t use.

Location lists every spot for that log, members spots and ones your account can’t use yet included. Isle of Souls isn’t listed, since Collect banks its logs. Any (per account) lets the account choose among the spots it can use. If you pick a spot your account can’t use yet, the task waits until it can.

The task waits, and says why, while your Woodcutting level is below the tree’s level (for example “Magic trees need 75 Woodcutting.”) or while no spot for it can be used. The reason names what each spot is missing, for example “No usable Magic tree spot: Prifddinas needs Song of the Elves; …”.

A spot is skipped while your combat or Woodcutting level is under its requirement, its quest isn’t done, or (for the Chop & Drop only spots) the task banks its logs. Teaks on Fossil Island aren’t used.

Where some spots bank:

  • Locus Oasis banks at Auburnvale by quetzal once you’ve built the quetzal landing site at Outer Fortis, otherwise in Civitas illa Fortis.
  • Kastori banks at Auburnvale by quetzal once you’ve built Kastori’s quetzal landing site, otherwise at Tal Teklan.
  • Nemus Retreat uses the Nemus Retreat bank, and the Woodcutting Guild the bank chest beside its trees.
  • Ape Atoll: before Monkey Madness II the monkeys attack a human, so the task takes a greegree you own from the bank and holds it on the island, keeping the axe in the inventory. There’s no bank on the island until then: when it needs the bank, it leaves the islands first. After Monkey Madness II it banks in Marim.

Any (per account) runs Chop & Drop or Chop & Bank for the whole range and switches once. Up to a switch level between 30 and 45, about two in three accounts drop and the rest bank. After that it’s an even split. The choices are made once per account and stay the same every run (see Account seeds).

Tick Prefer forestry locations to take part in Forestry events. With it on:

  • World. It hops to world 444, or to world 487 if 444 is full, before chopping.
  • Spots. It prefers Forestry spots (marked in the table above) when the tree has one.
  • Forestry kit. If you own no Forestry kit or basket and your combat level is 15 or more, it buys a Forestry kit from the Friendly Forester in Draynor and wears it.
  • Events. It takes part in these events when they appear: Rising Roots, Struggling Sapling, Flowering Tree, Leprechaun rainbow, Beehive, Friendly Ent, Poachers, Enchantment Ritual and Pheasant Control.
  • Leprechaun. When a leprechaun turns up and you carry 10 or more logs, it banks your woodcutting resources with him once per visit.
  • Clean-up. Event leftovers it can’t use (strange pollen, pheasant eggs, mulch) are destroyed.

With the box off, none of this happens: it chops on whatever world you’re on and ignores the events.

When you reach the target Woodcutting level. The logs you banked stay in your bank.
