Construction

Ironman AIO trains Construction with Mahogany Homes, the contract minigame run by Amy in Falador and her colleagues. Before it starts, it works out every plank your goal needs and makes them itself, sawing logs at a sawmill and chopping the logs if you don’t have them. It then runs contract after contract, teleporting between the cities, and can buy the plank sack and the Carpenter’s outfit with the points it earns.

To add a task, pick Construction in Setup, set a level range (From and To), choose Mahogany Homes and pick a contract tier. The task ends when you reach the To level.

Requirement Details
Daddy’s Home The members’ miniquest that unlocks Mahogany Homes. If it isn’t done, the task does it first (see below).
Membership Construction is members-only, and so are the sawmills that turn logs into planks. On a free-to-play account the task waits.
Saw and hammer Bought if you don’t own them.
Coins For sawing planks, and for teleport runes. The task won’t start if you can’t pay to saw every plank the goal needs.

The Contract dropdown picks the tier you ask the contractor for:

Choice Construction level Planks
Auto 1 The best of the three below that your level allows and your planks cover
Beginner 1 Planks
Novice 20 Oak planks
Adept 50 Teak planks
Expert 70 Mahogany planks

Auto moves up as you level: Beginner, then Novice at 20, then Adept at 50. It stops at Adept; Expert contracts only run if you pick Expert. A home is assigned at random, so Auto only asks for a tier when you own enough of its planks for the biggest home at that tier.

If you pick a tier your level doesn’t allow yet, the task waits, for example with “Adept contracts need level 50 Construction (current level 32)”, and starts once you reach the tier’s level. The rest of your plan runs in the meantime.

Mahogany Homes is locked until Daddy’s Home is done. If it isn’t, the task runs the miniquest first and then starts on contracts. On a free-to-play account the task waits with “Construction needs membership”. Add Missing Reqs adds Daddy’s Home ahead of a Mahogany Homes task.

At the start, the task plans the whole goal, contract by contract, from the average XP and plank use of each tier, and adds a full home’s worth of spare planks per tier. It then gathers what you don’t already have before it takes the first contract:

  • Planks come from planks you own (banked, noted or in the plank sack). Missing planks are sawn from your logs at a sawmill, for 100 coins (plank), 250 (oak), 500 (teak) or 1,500 (mahogany) each.
  • Sawmill. It uses the sawmill at Auburnvale once Children of the Sun is done, otherwise the Woodcutting Guild’s from 60 Woodcutting, otherwise the one in Varrock.
  • Logs. When there aren’t enough logs in the bank, it chops oak (15 Woodcutting) or teak (35 Woodcutting) logs itself, with your best axe, then saws them. Mahogany logs have to come from the bank.
  • Steel bars. Some homes need a steel bar. Banked bars are used first. Otherwise it mines and smelts them, which needs 15 Mining for iron, 30 Mining for coal and 30 Smithing.

If something on the plan can’t be had, the task is skipped and shows the reason: for example, not enough coins to saw every plank the plan needs, no plank source for your level, or no way to get steel bars. If training runs dry later, it plans and gathers again.

Each bank trip takes enough for several contracts:

  • your saw and hammer, and the plank sack if you own one (filled with planks too)
  • up to three steel bars
  • your teleport runes (in the rune pouch if you own one)
  • planks of the tier in every slot left over

It wears the Carpenter’s outfit and Graceful where you own them, plus an elemental staff that covers some of the teleport runes. A charged Xeric’s talisman goes in the neck slot. It only goes back to the bank when what it carries can’t finish the contract in hand.

  1. Get a contract. The very first one comes from Amy in Falador. After that it asks the nearest contractor: Amy (Falador), Marlo (Varrock), Ellie (Ardougne) or Angelo (Hosidius), and picks the tier from the task.
  2. Travel. It teleports toward the home when that saves a long walk, then walks the rest.
  3. Work. It repairs, removes and builds every piece of furniture the homeowner wants, going upstairs where needed.
  4. Get paid. It talks to the homeowner to finish the contract and earn its points.

If you stop the script mid-contract, the next run picks up the same contract.

Teleport Magic level Needs
Varrock Teleport 25
Falador Teleport 37
Teleport to House (outside) 40 Your house in Hosidius
Kourend Castle Teleport 48 Client of Kourend
Ardougne Teleport 51 Plague City

They need the standard spellbook. The task keeps law runes in stock, buying 100 at a time when it runs out, as long as a law rune shop is unlocked and you have the coins. It tops up the other runes it needs (only the ones your staff doesn’t cover) to about 100 casts whenever they drop below 10. With no spell it can cast to a contract’s city, it takes two of another teleport to that city from the bank (tablets, for example) if you have one.

From 25 Construction, if you can cast Teleport to House, the task moves your house to Hosidius between contracts. It does this at the estate agent in Falador for 8,750 coins, so Hosidius contracts start with a house teleport. Without the coins it carries on and moves the house later.

Two checkboxes buy rewards from Amy’s reward shop with the points from contracts:

  • Claim plank sack (350 points). Bought first. Once owned, every trip carries 28 more planks in it.
  • Claim Carpenter’s outfit (2,000 points for all four pieces): helmet 400, shirt 800, trousers 600 and boots 200, in an order each account picks for itself.

Rewards you already own are skipped. Each account has its own habit for when it goes to claim: as soon as it can afford the next reward, the next time it’s at Amy anyway, or once it has a few points more than it needs. It only claims between contracts.

  • When Add Missing Reqs adds Construction levels, it adds a Mahogany Homes task.
  • Banking planks or logs ahead of time saves the task a lot of chopping and sawing. Mahogany planks for Expert contracts must come from your bank.
  • See Money for what happens when a task runs short of coins.
