Crafting

Ironman AIO has four Crafting methods. Glass blowing is the one to use from level 1 on an ironman: it buys the sand and soda ash with coins, makes its own molten glass and blows it into the best item for your level. Bow strings costs nothing but time, since it picks its own flax. Gem cutting and Soft leather use up gems, cowhides and leather you already have in the bank.

To add a task, pick Crafting in Setup, set a level range (From and To) and choose a method. Every method ends when you reach the To level. Crafting has no location or item picker: each method chooses its own spots and the best item for your level. On a free-to-play account, Glass blowing and Bow strings wait with “Glass blowing needs membership” (or Bow strings); Gem cutting and Soft leather run as usual.

Method Crafting level What you need
Glass blowing 1 Membership, coins for sand and soda ash (at least 10 to start)
Bow strings 10 (the task doesn’t check it) Membership; it picks its own flax
Gem cutting 20 Uncut gems in the bank
Soft leather 1 Leather or cowhides in the bank, a few coins
Any (per account) 1 As the methods it picks

Makes molten glass from scratch and blows it.

  1. Plan. It works out how many items it has to blow to reach your goal, counting the XP from making each molten glass as well. Molten glass you already own is used first.
  2. Soda ash. Seaweed in your bank is cooked into soda ash on the fire next to the Port Khazard bank chest.
  3. Buy. It buys the buckets of sand and soda ash still missing from the Trader Crewmember on the Port Khazard dock, hopping worlds if the shop runs low. It also buys a glassblowing pipe there if you don’t own one.
  4. Smelt. It makes molten glass at the Edgeville furnace, 14 at a time.
  5. Blow. It blows the molten glass into the best item for your level (table below) and banks what it makes.

Each account has its own buying habit: some buy the supplies for the whole goal in one go, others buy enough for 150 to 600 molten glass at a time and come back for more.

Crafting level Item blown
1 Beer glass
4 Empty candle lantern
12 Empty oil lamp
33 Vial
42 Empty fishbowl
46 Unpowered orb
49 Lantern lens
87 Empty light orb

If it needs to buy something and you own fewer than 10 coins, the task waits. See Money.

Spins flax into bow strings (15 XP each) at the spinning wheel upstairs in Seers’ Village.

  • Flax. It uses flax from the bank first. Bales of flax are unpacked. When the bank has none, it picks flax at the flax field near Seers’ Village and fills the inventory before spinning.
  • Bow string spool. If you own one, it carries it and empties it when it’s full.
  • Banking. The bow strings go to the bank, ready for Fletching.

The task works out how many bow strings your goal needs and stops picking once it has enough.

Cuts the uncut gems in your bank with a chisel. It takes the best gem you can cut first:

Crafting level Gem
20 Sapphire
27 Emerald
34 Ruby
43 Diamond

It buys a chisel from the Lumbridge general store if you don’t own one. It doesn’t gather gems. When you have no uncut gems left that your level can cut, the task is skipped and the plan moves on.

Crafts leather armour from soft leather with a needle and thread, always the best item for your level:

Crafting level Item
1 Leather gloves
7 Leather boots
9 Leather cowl
11 Leather vambraces
14 Leather body
18 Leather chaps
38 Coif (members only)
  • Leather. It uses soft leather from the bank. Cowhides are tanned into soft leather by Ellis in Al Kharid for 1 coin each. Each account has its own tanning habit: tan everything it needs first, tan a few inventories at a time, or tan one inventory at a time.
  • Needle and thread. It buys a needle and enough thread (one per five items) from Rommik’s Crafty Supplies in Rimmington if you don’t have them.

When there’s no leather or cowhides left, or not enough coins for tanning, thread or a needle, the task is skipped and the plan moves on. Cowhides can come from a Combat task on cows with banking turned on.

Any (per account) uses Glass blowing up to around 10-16, then a mix of mostly Glass blowing with some accounts spinning bow strings from 10. Each account gets its own mix, the same every run. See Account seeds.

  • When the Setup screen adds missing requirements for a quest, it adds Crafting as a Glass blowing task.
  • Glass blowing turns coins into XP, so check your coin supply before a long goal.
