Smithing

Ironman AIO has four Smithing methods. Smelt bars, Smith bars and Smelt + Smith work through the ores and bars in your bank: they don’t mine or buy ore, so pair them with Mining tasks that fill the bank first. Giants’ Foundry buys weapons and armour from shops and melts them down to cast swords for Kovac.

To add one, pick Smithing in Setup, set a level range and choose a method. The other options depend on the method:

Method Bar dropdown Item dropdown Location dropdown
Smelt bars Yes, with Cannonballs Furnace
Smith bars Yes Anvil
Smelt + Smith Yes Yes
Giants’ Foundry Its own setup, see below
Bar Smithing level Ores per bar
Bronze 1 1 copper, 1 tin
Iron 15 1 iron
Silver 20 1 silver
Steel 30 1 iron, 2 coal
Gold 40 1 gold
Mithril 50 1 mithril, 4 coal
Adamantite 70 1 adamantite, 6 coal
Runite 85 1 runite, 8 coal

Auto (the default for Bar) smelts the best bar your level allows that you have the ores for, falling back to lower bars as ores run out. Pick a bar to smelt only that one. Each trip withdraws as many full sets of ore as fit in the inventory.

Auto (the default for Item) smiths the highest-level item your level and bars allow, starting from your best bar. Each bar’s items start at that bar’s level (Bronze 1, Iron 15, Steel 30, Mithril 50, Adamant 70, Rune 85) and each item adds to it:

Item Bars Level above the bar’s
Dagger 1 +0
Axe 1 +1
Mace 1 +2
Medium helm 1 +3
Sword 1 +4
Scimitar 2 +5
Longsword 2 +6
Full helm 2 +7
Square shield 2 +8
Warhammer 3 +9
Battleaxe 3 +10
Chainbody 3 +11
Kiteshield 3 +12
2h sword 3 +14
Plateskirt, Platelegs 3 +16
Platebody 5 +18

For example, a steel platebody needs 48, and rune items never need more than 99. You can also pick bolts, dart tips, nails, arrowtips, javelin heads, limbs, knives or claws by name, but Auto never chooses them. Silver and gold bars can be smelted but not smithed.

With an item picked and Smith bars, it uses the best bar you have enough of for that item.

Takes ore from the bank, smelts it at a furnace with Make all, and banks the bars.

Location picks the furnace:

Option Notes
Nearest furnace (default) The furnace closest to where the trip starts, kept until the next bank trip
Edgeville furnace
Al Kharid furnace
Lumbridge furnace
East Ardougne furnace Members only

Cannonballs. The Bar dropdown for Smelt bars also offers Cannonballs. It needs Dwarf Cannon and 35 Smithing. It takes your double ammo mould if you own one, otherwise an ammo mould (bought for 5 coins if you have neither), fills the inventory with steel bars and casts them at the furnace.

Takes a hammer and bars from the bank, smiths them at an anvil and banks the items. Location picks the anvil: Varrock west anvils (default) or Fishing Trawler anvils (members only).

Smelts all the ore it can first, at the furnace nearest the bank, then smiths the bars at the Varrock west anvils. With Bar on Auto it smelts your best ores and smiths your best bars. With a bar picked, it smelts and smiths only that bar, making the Item you picked or, on Auto, the best item for that bar.

  • Hammer. If you don’t own one, it buys one. Smithing never starts without it.
  • Running out. When there’s no usable ore or bar left (or no hammer or mould and no coins to buy one), the task waits with a message like “No usable bars remain; waiting for more supplies”. It carries on by itself once another task has put more in the bank.

When it’s done: when you reach the target level.

Casts giant swords for Kovac at the Giants’ Foundry. You choose the metals yourself, and the script buys the metal from shops.

What you need:

  • Membership and 15 Smithing. The editor’s level range has to end above 15, and training starts at 15 at the earliest.
  • Sleeping Giants. If it isn’t finished, the task does the quest first. If the quest can’t be started, the task is skipped with the reason.
  • Coins for the weapons and armour it melts down.

The editor walks you through two steps. Add stays greyed out until both are done, with a list of what’s still missing above it. There are no defaults.

Step 1: metals for each level range. Every sword is cast from 28 bars of two metals. A new level range starts where a better metal can go in:

Levels Metals you can use
15-29 Bronze, iron
30-49 Bronze, iron, steel
50-69 Bronze to mithril
70-84 Bronze to adamant
85+ Bronze to rune

For each range your task trains through, pick a first metal, type how many bars of it (1 to 27), and pick a second metal for the rest. For example, 10 bronze and 18 iron. The card shows the alloy’s metal score and about how much XP a sword gives. More of the better metal means more XP per sword.

Step 2: the item to buy and melt for each metal. For each metal your alloys use, pick one item. Only that item is bought or melted for that metal. Melting gives the item’s bars minus one, so one-bar items can’t be used:

Item Bars it adds
Scimitar, Longsword, Full helm, Sq shield, Claws 1
Warhammer, Battleaxe, Chainbody, Kiteshield, 2h sword, Platelegs, Plateskirt 2
Platebody 4
Bars 1 each, owned only (no shop sells bars)
  1. Planning. It works out how much metal the whole goal needs from your current XP. The chosen items you already own melt first, and it buys the rest from weapon and armour shops before casting the first sword. When the chosen item can’t make up a metal’s share exactly (an odd number of bars, or platebodies), the gap comes from bars you own or the cheapest one-bar shop item of that metal. Items you’re wearing are never melted.
  2. Gear. It wears the smiths’ uniform pieces you own (graceful in the other slots) and either smiths gloves (i) or ice gloves so it can pick up the hot sword. Without either, it fills a bucket of water at the waterfall to cool the sword instead.
  3. Swords. At the foundry’s bank chest it withdraws the metal for one sword. It takes a commission from Kovac, sets the moulds, fills the crucible, pours, and picks up the sword. Then it works the trip hammer, grindstone and polishing wheel, keeping the heat in range for each stage, and hands the finished sword to Kovac.
  4. Smiths’ uniform. Between swords it spends Foundry Reputation at Kovac’s shop on the uniform, cheapest missing piece first: boots (3,500), gloves (3,500), tunic (4,000), trousers (4,000). Each piece is worn straight away. If you own ice gloves, it uses the smiths gloves on them to make smiths gloves (i). If the shop’s filter is set to show moulds only, it stops buying the uniform; set the filter back to All in game.
  5. Running short. If the next sword can’t be filled, it plans again and buys more. If no shop sells the metal it needs, or you’re out of coins, the task is skipped with the reason.

When it’s done: when you reach the target level. A sword already poured or in hand is finished and handed in first, then it leaves the foundry.
